In March 2005:
- Consents were issued for 3,027 new dwelling units.
- Apartment units accounted for 29 percent of new dwelling units.
- The total value of consents issued for non-residential buildings was $414 million.
- The total value of consents issued for all buildings was $1,159 million.

- Residential consents contributed 64 percent of the total value of all buildings, compared with 67 percent in March 2004.
- The trend for the value of non-residential buildings has increased 67 percent since January 2003.
