Highlights


  • The highest value for all building consents issued in a May month was recorded in May 2006, due to high residential and non-residential building consent values.
  • The low number of consents issued in May 2005, due to changes to the Building Act 2004, will affect comparisons with May 2006 figures.
  • Consents were issued for 2,328 new dwelling units in May 2006, compared with 1,977 in May 2005.
  • The value of consents issued for residential buildings was $670 million in May 2006, $134 million (25 percent) higher than in May 2005.
  • The value of consents issued for non-residential buildings was $388 million in May 2006, $52 million (15 percent) higher than in May 2005.
  • The value of consents issued for all buildings was $1,059 million in May 2006, $186 million (21 percent) higher than in May 2005.
