Highlights


 

 
  •  The estimated resident population of New Zealand was 4.14 million at 30 June 2006.

     

  •  Population growth was 41,400 (1.0 percent) during the June 2006 year.

     

  •   Natural increase and net migration gain contributed 30,700 and 10,700, respectively, to population growth during the June 2006 year.

     

  •   The median ages for men and women were 34.9 and 36.7 years, respectively, at 30 June 2006.

     

  •   There were 875,600 children (0–14 years) at 30 June 2006, comprising 21.1 percent of the total population.
