In August 2006:
- Guest nights were 4 percent higher in the North Island and 1 percent higher in the South Island compared with August 2005.
- Total guest nights were 3 percent higher than in August 2005.
- The trend in total guest nights has flattened since October 2004.

- Four of the five accommodation types recorded more guest nights than in August 2005.
- Nine of the 12 regions recorded more guest nights than in August 2005.
- The Bay of Plenty, Auckland and Otago regions recorded the largest increases in guest nights compared with August 2005.
