- The trend for the number of new dwelling units has been increasing since May 2006.
- Consents were issued for 2,545 new dwellings in September 2006, compared with 2,283 in September 2005.
- The highest number of consents for new dwelling units was recorded since March 2005, just prior to the introduction of the Building Act 2004.

- Consents were issued for 493 new apartments in September 2006, compared with 266 in August and 257 in July.
- Ten of 16 regions recorded more new dwellings in September 2006 than in September 2005.
- The value of consents issued for non-residential buildings was $343 million in September 2006, $58 million (15 percent) lower than in September 2005.
