Agricultural Production Statistics (Provisional)

Highlights

At 30 June 2006:

• Sheep numbers reached 40.1 million, up 0.4 percent on 2005.

• Dairy cows and heifers in milk or calf increased by 2 percent on 2005 to reach 4.2 million.

• Beef numbers remained stable at 4.4 million.

• Deer numbers decreased by 6 percent on 2005, to 1.6 million.
