Highlights


  • In 2007, total passenger arrivals and departures numbered 9.06 million, up 4 percent from 2006.

 

  • Auckland airport accounted for 71 percent of all international passenger movements.

 

  • Between 2003 and 2007, Australia (up 248,000), China (up 54,800) and the United Kingdom (up 27,900) contributed the majority of the increase in visitor arrivals.

 

  • In 2007, 80 percent of all visitor arrivals were from the top ten source countries.

 

  • New Zealand residents took more short-term trips to all major destinations except Fiji (down 8,800).

 

  • Half of all short-term trips by New Zealand residents were to Australia.

 

  • New Zealand recorded a net inflow of 5,500 permanent and long-term migrants, down from 14,600 in 2006.

 

  • There were net permanent and long-term inflows to Auckland (6,400), Canterbury (700), Otago (200) and Marlborough (100).
