Highlights


In January 2008 compared with January 2007:    
  • Domestic guest nights increased 6 percent, to 2.7 million guest nights.
  • Seven of the 12 regions recorded higher guest nights, led by Canterbury, Auckland and the Bay of Plenty.
  • International guest nights decreased 4 percent, to 1.7 million guest nights.
  • Guest nights for five of the 12 regions were the highest on record, led by Canterbury, Auckland and Otago.
  • Total guest nights increased 2 percent to a record 4.5 million.
  • Caravan parks/camping grounds showed the largest increase of the five accommodation types.
