The Census of International Trade in Services and Royalties collects information from all New Zealand businesses that trade services internationally. The data collected from this Census is used to benchmark the non-sampled estimate for the quarterly trade in commercial services and royalties component in New Zealand's balance of payment statistics. The results are also used to update the sample for the Quarterly International Trade in Services and Royalties Survey.
As well as being used in the compilation of New Zealand's balance of payments statistics, the data is used to inform New Zealand's international trade negotiations. The information helps businesses and policymakers to understand New Zealand's international trade in commercial services market, and the significance of New Zealand's commercial services revenue or expenditure as part of New Zealand's total international services revenue and expenditure.
This is a census of all New Zealand businesses that either export or import commercial services and/or receive or make payments abroad for royalties. The New Zealand head office is asked to report for the whole of the New Zealand group, however, separate business units can report on their own activities where appropriate.
