Any changes to this standard and classification may affect the collection of household and family statistics, housing statistics, and the statistical standard for dwelling occupancy status. The occupied dwelling type classification, standard, and output, are used widely by external organisations such as the Ministry of Social Development, Building Research Advisory Council of New Zealand, Department of Building and Housing, and Housing New Zealand Corporation.
The dwelling type classification follows the basic guidelines as set out in the United Nations’ publication Principles and Recommendations for Population and Housing Censuses, Revision 2 (2008).
