Offence

Rationale

The primary purpose of the Australian and New Zealand Standard Offence Classification (ANZSOC) is to provide a systematic ordering of criminal offences defined in the criminal laws of the Australian state and territory, and New Zealand jurisdictions.

Classification of offence

ANZSOC is a hierarchical classification of three levels. There are 17 major groups (including residual categories) at level 1 of the classification, 65 subdivisions (including residual categories) at level 2 of the classification, and 185 groups (including residual categories) at level 3 of the classification.

More information is available on the ANZSOC page of the Australian Bureau of Statistics website.
