Relationship between members in a private dwelling (henceforth 'relationship') is a key variable for deriving household and family data. It can be used as an input variable to derive information on family type and household composition.
The standard classification of relationship is a hierarchical classification of three levels. Level 1 of the classification has seven categories, level 2 has 15 categories and level 3 has 31 categories – excluding residual categories. The residual categories are defined in Glossary and references.
