'Workplace address' is collected from individuals to code industry and institutional sector through matching to Statistics NZ's Business Frame. It is a key variable for determining the geographic characteristics of those in paid employment. Workplace address is also used to estimate the likely daytime population of specific geographic areas and, when used in conjunction with usual residence and main means of travel to work, to measure traffic flows between work and home.
Workplace address is a flat classification with over 43,000 categories – excluding residual categories. The classification consists of a combination of classifications that are ordinarily stored independently of each other.
