Introduction
Statistics New Zealand usually releases provisional international travel statistics on this webpage each Friday after 3pm. The latest available weekly and four-weekly information is provided for short-term overseas visitor arrivals and short-term New Zealand resident departures. Data are published for the ten main source and ten main destination countries, as well as for regions and totals.
The provisional data are released to enable the tourism industry to monitor arrivals and departures on a regular and timely basis.
Comparisons of data for 'equivalent' periods a year apart need to be treated with caution, as data for one period may be influenced by events for which there is no equivalent in the other period (eg the days leading up to Christmas, Chinese New Year, Easter, school holidays, etc).
The four-weekly and weekly data series are provisional. They are derived from the latest available processed data and may be revised up until the time that the official statistics for the month are released. The results are therefore indicative.
Data for individual countries and regions are derived from a sample of arrivals and departures.
The data normally refers to the period up to the Sunday 12 days before release date. The interval between the reference period and day of release will be longer between January and March, until processing of migration cards returns to normal following the Christmas holidays.
No other four-weekly or weekly data will be available prior to the official release of data for the reference month via the International Travel and Migration Hot Off The Press release.
The downloadable files are in Microsoft Excel 97 format(s). If you do not have access to Excel 97 or higher you may use the Excel file viewer to view, print and export the contents of this file
