 21 September

(ITM) International Travel and Migration
International travel and migration data is now being processed using a new, upgraded processing system, starting with August 2016 data (released on 21 September 2016).

This new system uses improved methodology, which takes greater account of travellers' history in addition to intentions stated on the arrival and departure cards. It also makes greater use of automation in the processing and classification of passenger types.

In particular the changes that affect Infoshare series the most are:
- Imputation of country of residence for visitor arrivals, which decreases ‘not stated’ responses in all ‘Visitor arrivals by country of residence’ series.
- Using matched information from the previous arrival for ‘Visitor departures’ series. In particular ‘Visitor departures by country of residence’ have moved from sample counts to matched actual (non-sample) counts.

For more information, see our International Travel and Migration processing system changes in August 2016 note in DataInfo+.

17 June  (LAF) Local Authority Financial Statistics
On 17 November 2015 Wanganui District Council was renamed Whanganui District Council. http://www.whanganui.govt.nz/our-district/spelling/Pages/default.aspx. This change has now been made to the LAF.

We added a new unit in 'Local Authority Financial Statistics financial position (Annual-Jun)' under 'Local councils' called Eliminations. This unit eliminates Auckland Council’s equity investment in its subsidiaries, which are included within the LAFS coverage, and prevents double counting their equity when they are aggregated. The change was implemented in 2011, when eight councils were amalgamated to form Auckland Council.

In all LAF tables we have changed 'Total' to 'Total (excluding Museums)', which now refers to local authorities only.

We have created CSV files for you to download all the data, the file is under Government Finance: Local Authority Financial Statistics: Year ended June 2015
17 June  (GFS) Government Finance Statistics

We corrected the names of the following variables. The underlying data has not been altered as result of these changes.

Local Government, Balance Sheet, Net Balances
GFSA.SLS02G01Z90 has become GFSA.SLS02G01Z92 and has been corrected from 'Net operating balance' to 'Net worth'
GFSA.SLS02G01Z91 has become GFSA.SLS02G01Z93 and has been corrected from 'Net lending/borrowing' to 'Net financial worth'

We have included new tax series to align the Local Government layout with the Central Government release.
The two tables are:
Local Government, Taxation Revenue, Taxes incl Income, Payroll and Other (Annual-Jun) Series: GFSA.SLS04G1011++
Local Government, Taxation Revenue, Taxes on Int'l Trade and Transactions (Annual-Jun) Series: GFSA.SLS04G1311++
These tables contain no data for Local Government as those taxes are administered only by Central Government at this time.
15 June  (HLF) Household Labour Force Survey

We have corrected an error in the following two time series.

8 June  (RTT) Retail Trade (ANZSIC06)
Series, Retail Trade Stocks, All industries total, in current prices, Seasonally adjusted, Trend (Qrtly-Mar/Jun/Sep/Dec)

We have corrected an error discovered in the calculation of the seasonal adjustment and trend series for total retail trade stocks – June 1995 to March 2016 quarters.

The revision only impacts on the Total industries current stocks for:
• Seasonally Adjusted, total retail trade stocks in current prices – RTTQ.S2S9C
• Trend, total retail trade stocks in current prices – RTTQ.S2T9C

There are no changes to the 15 current stock industries or to the core retail trade (excluding the vehicle related industries) series.

We apologise for the inconvenience caused by this error.

 (BAS) Building Activity Survey

On 21 April 2016 we released 368 new time series on Infoshare. The methodology introduced in the December 2014 quarter for estimating the value of building work put in place has allowed us to make this data available.
Building activity by region – 92 series:
• New and altered actual value of work in New Zealand for seven existing and two new (more detailed) categories of non-residential buildings. These nine non-residential building types match those in building consent statistics. The two additional categories provide more detail within commercial buildings, and factories, industrial, and storage buildings:
o shops, restaurants, and bars
o office, administration, and public transport buildings
o storage buildings
o factories and industrial buildings.
• Value of work for nine non-residential building categories, for six regions.

Building activity quality –276 series:
• Three series for each of the added actual non-residential buildings value series – modelling error, modelled rate, and imputed rate.

Note: Modelling methodology enables us to provide regional estimates, but the modelled rate and modelling error are higher for some building types and regions than at the national level. By region, the modelled rate by building type ranges from 5 to 100 percent, with modelling error ranging from less than 1 to more than 17 percent.

7 March (WTS) Wholesale Trade Survey

The stock series for the other goods wholesaling industry was revised for the September and June 2015 quarters after we received more information from the businesses we surveyed.

The revision affected the following series:

Other goods wholesaling stocks – WTSQ.SFE9CA

Total wholesaling stocks – WTSQ.SFZ9CA.

See Wholesale Trade Survey: December 2015 for a table of the revision’s effect on the recent quarters.
