Apprehension statistics give the number of offender apprehensions and how such apprehensions were resolved.
The New Zealand Police maintains separate statistics for calendar years and fiscal years.

Definition
Statistics in these tables represent the numbers of apprehensions but not the numbers of offenders. An ‘apprehension’ means that a person has been dealt with by the Police in some manner (eg a warning, prosecution, referral to youth justice family group conference) to resolve an offence.
In some circumstances ‘dealt with by the Police’ may mean that the offender has been found to have a mental condition or is in custody, so no further action is taken other than to document the offence.
Apprehensions do not count distinct individuals, as a person apprehended for multiple offences will be counted multiple times in the data.
Specific instances may appear in one or both of the calendar year and fiscal year datasets, in line with the counting rules given in the Overview of recording and counting crime.
